The ISS-AM is named as “Zhi-Hong” not only to commemorate the school founder Professor Zhihong Zhou, but also to inspire the summer school participants since “Zhi-Hong” in Chinese means “being ambitious”.

All the lectures were good and were good for forming some guidelines for future research students. As there were students from several background and study levels, so keeping the lectures to more fundamental ideas and not going to deep into some particular research could drag attention of all (sometimes we we are not aware of topics, providing detail information in it all at once could easily lose students attention). Campus tour and cultural tour could have been more planned, guided and organised. The volunteers for these program were also not completely aware and familiar about the campus area or the Shanghai city. Also, although these program was within the program plan, the travel cost was not covered by the Summar Program. Industry tour was good but it was less friendly with speaking international students in terms of language as most of the things were explained in chinese. The cultural lecture could have included more aspects of chinese culture and also there could have been an interactive session/show included in this lecture. Cultural festival was good, some suggestions i would like to make is: asking students to prepare in advance for simple cultural dresses, incorporating culture expert/s to host the program, and requesting students for more authentic cultural tasks. Ice break was dragon boat was fun and satisfying. Also, in terms of arrangements, if the summar school can arrange/include some meal for the students (could be atleast breakfast would be great). Overall, the program was satisfying with some improvements for future.

First of all, I want to express my deep gratitude for organizing the 2023 SJTU “Zhi-Hong” International Summer School of Advanced Materials. It was the most intense, productive, joyful two weeks of my life. In addition to a solid foundation and quality knowledge of future materials from the best lecturers, I had the opportunity to make many new friendships with talented individuals. Shanghai left me with a wonderful impression, and I'm eager to return and meet everyone again soon! Suggestions for improvement: 1) The lectures, spanning 3 hours, posed challenges in maintaining focus, and it would be beneficial to either shorten the lecture duration or incorporate 30-minute breaks to enhance attentiveness. 2) Language barriers occasionally hindered communication with fellow students, and the fact that most field trip speakers primarily spoke in Chinese added to the difficulty. 3) It would greatly enhance the experience if cultural tours were organized not only within Shanghai but also to neighboring places like Suzhou, where one can explore beautiful gardens such as the Humble Administrator Garden. 4) Addressing some organizational issues would be valuable. For instance, providing the necessary documents for visa applications in a timely manner would ease the process. Additionally, clarifying that food and culture tour expenses are not covered by the host beforehand would be helpful. Moreover, having volunteers or student representatives meet international students at the airport would be highly beneficial, as navigating taxis, metros, and buses without knowledge of Chinese was challenging.

The schedule is a bit tight, and I feel like I can't keep up with the energy in the second week, but overall I'm still excited and happy

Most lectures was focused in metals, and we had many lectures about graphene even if is a future material we maybe need more future materials.
